Community Conversation with Chris "Farmer" Brown

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

PLEASE NOTE: The events starts about 25 minutes into this video.

On Wednesday June 10th, agricultural activist and urban farmer Chris Brown spoke with me about the realities of local food production on Vancouver Island. We discussed COVID-19 as well as challenges and opportunities for enhancing local food security.

Food security is an issue I have worked on previously, both at Nanaimo Foodshare and in my documentary film work. Last year, I produced Five Acres, which explores the history and significance of the Five Acre Farm in Harewood, a plot of land with a long history of producing local food.
