Community Conversation with Signy Madden

On Wednesday July 15th I had a conversation with Signy Madden, the Executive Director of the United Way of Central and Northern Vancouver Island. We talked at length about the role of the United Way in funding front line social services for people in need and facilitating cooperative efforts among local non-profits and charities to provide those services. The Nanaimo Homeless Coalition is a great example of that work. We also talked about the specific needs of vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic - seniors, people with disabilities, people who are homeless - and how local organizations are working to try to meet those needs. I hope you'll take the opportunity to listen to this conversation and learn more about the work of the United Way of Central and Northern Vancouver Island. They fill a vital role in the social support system of our communities and I hope that this conversation will help shine a light on that work.
