On Wednesday June 17th, I spoke with Joy Bremner, Mid-Island Métis Nation Board President, and Chris Beaton, Executive Director of Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre. We discussed the impacts of COVID-19 on the local urban Indigenous population, the need to implement UNDRIP at the federal level, the one year anniversary of report from the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Inquiry, and National Indigenous Peoples Day.
National Indigenous Peoples Day is coming up on June 21. Mid-Island Métis Nation and Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre will be celebrating all day long on their social media channels. There will be live art creation, music, prizes, and more. Visit the Mid-Island Métis Nation Facebook page and the Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre Facebook page for more information.
